To encourage creative expressions and character development through programs which appeal to the camper’s imagination. Campers will actively participate in arts, special events (i.e.: Hat, Pirate and other special days) and field games aimed at developing camper’s creative potential. Opportunities to participate in problem-solving activities will be provided whenever possible.

To assist campers in improvement of existing skills and acquire new ones. Campers will be given the opportunity to improve skill levels through participation in the YMCA PROGRESSIVE and RECREATIONAL swim programs, field games, and group-living activities. New skills will be introduced and developed in all programs when appropriate prerequisites have been mastered.

To foster awareness of fair play and sportsmanship through competition which promotes participation and team work. Through active participation in survival skills, field games and other informal camp contacts, campers will recognize the importance of group cooperation. Strict sportsmanship guidelines will be enforced, thereby supporting their development.

To encourage campers to become physically fit and to practice good health habits and share in maintaining good safety standards for the welfare of all. Through the education and enforcement of camp policies, rules and regulations, campers will share in the practice of healthy lifestyle and by way of regular participation in field games, hiking and aquatic activities campers will appreciate recreational activities as a means of becoming physically fit.

To encourage an awareness that the ideals of world peace, brotherhood, and good will start within each individual. Participation in international programs and Camp Olympic Day will offer each camper exposure to other cultures and develop an awareness of life outside their own community and an appreciation and better understanding of people from other nations.

To encourage campers to gain an understanding of campercraft and nature lore, enabling fuller participation in the camping program. All campers will participate in fire building techniques and safety procedures at least two times per session. Watchaug site campers will spend an overnight and will be actively involved in all aspects of outdoor living including menu preparation, outdoor cooking, use and care of camping equipment and environmental impact.
